Condition Monitoring Systems

To avoid high expenses by early detection

Condition monitoring systems allow reviewing of the vibration behaviour of the drive train of a wind turbine. The vibration behaviour is being measured during the operation of the wind turbine by means of accelerometers, recorded and subsequently analysed. This allows for an early detection of even minor defects within the gearbox bearings and the generator. Also it allows the drawing of conclusions on the status of the gear teeth. The important aspect is the correct interpretation of the measurement results.

Only he who knows the exact status of his drive train can take measures early on to effect repairs in time in order to avoid high expenses resulting from consequential damages.

If for example a defective generator bearing is detected, a replacement could be arranged within short time. If the replacement is not made, the advancing bearing defect can lead to the total loss of the generator. In this case the damage would not also be a much higher material damage, but would also result in a much longer interruption of operation and thus to a higher loss of revenue.
